Interview with You Kikkawa has been held unexpectedly as we explained in the last article. The meeting room we started the interview was going be used for another appointment in the meantime, so we moved to the rooftop of the building. It was sunny outside.

■On the rooftop
P: Kikka Fes will be held after the release of that new single. How do you feel looking back at previous 2 festivals?
K: At the first “Kikka Fes”, I performed songs from the album live for the first time. I prepared myself so much for the performance, because I was really nervous about singing wrong lyrics.
P: Your shoes were broken.
K: They were. Something unexpected happen when you do something new. “Kikka Fes” has never been 100% successful. We’ve brought back some problems from the 1st and 2nds festivals.
S: We haven’t brought back problems. She’s just made mistakes.
K: No, No, No, No! I haven’t! I’ve made some mistakes, though.
S: She’s made easy mistakes.
K: (laughs out loud)
P: Well, in the 2nd “Kikka Fes”, you performed with a live band.
K: It was fun to perform with the band but also difficult. The band performed ballads slowly in the low key. When I performed the song to the usual back music, it felt too fast. I was a little confused.
P: I’ve imagined the live band played in the way singer can feel easy.
K: I’ve imagined it was easier to sing with them but for me it was difficult.
P: What do you like to eat right now for the meal?
K: It’s quite a difficult question. It might be Sushi. I’d like to eat sushi from Kappa Zushi(Sushi). Why don’t they add Sushi of carps to their menu? I could make a proposal.
P: What do you eat at Kappa Zushi restaurant?
K: (Answers right away) Mackerels! I really love them. I’d like to cook them myself. Then I’ll have salmon and shrimp.
P: Do you always eat them there?
K: I do. I went to Kappa Zushi with my father in the midnight when I returned to my home last time on Father’s Day. I really like Sushi.
P: By the way, “Eve Festival” will be held for “Kikka Fes~Episode3~”. What’s the difference between them?
K: Eve Festival will be held to prepare for the Festival, where you can speed up your metabolism all night long like you do at school’s art festival. I’m not going to sleep that night. I wonder how fans would react to that.
P: Do you like to say “Kikkawa is going to perform all night long. What about you?”
K: Right. “Are you going to sleep?”
P: Each day has different program. Festival in Tokyo will feature only “live” but Eve Festival will feature “live&talk”.
K: Right. We’re going to do so.
P: Eve Festival might lead to the Festival. There would be something only those who joined the Eve Festival could understand.
K: (whispers in a little voice: if you could write so in your article, everyone might join Eve Festival!)
That’s right. Eve Festival and Kikka Fes can’t be separated!
P: Either way, You Kikkawa promises to perform at the Eve Festival so hard that everyone forget about sleeping.
K: I’ll surely do my best. I won’t make guests sleep as well and we won’t sleep keeping our tensions high. Let’s spend the night together!
P: I hope to see the stage which features local famous things such as Kuidaore Taro in Osaka.
K: That would be fun. We could do live under the crab object of Kani (crabs) Douraku restaurant!
P: You can’t do live there because the venues have been already fixed.
K: I got it. It’s Umeda Shangri-LA.
P: Nagoya E.L.L. you’ll perform at stands for Electric Lady Land. It’s an old live house where every band in Nagoya wishes to perform first.
K: I’ll leave much graffiti on the wall!
P: Aren’t you interested in writing lyrics? I’ve seen fans asking the same in some comments.
K: Lately I’ve asked that question from close people. Why? Do I look like being good at that?
P: I suppose you can express the scenery or the moment with your unique view of the world. I’d like to see you write the melody and the lyrics.
K: I’d like to try, but writing melody would be so difficult. But I’ll try one day.
P: Is there anything you always do at the lives?
K: I wear perfumes. I can’t feel relaxed without them.
P: Which is your favorite one lately?
K: I forgot its name. It’s in the heart-shaped bottle. I used to use the one when I was junior in high school.
P: I can’t tell its name. Do you have any favorite perfume brand?
K: Not particular. I choose by its scent. But I like Chloé. I often wear its perfumes. They make me feel relaxed. I put them on before the stage.
P: I remember you smelled so good when you appeared on stage of “Kikka Fes: Band Shitemikka” in May. I was in front of the stage with my camera.
K: Did I? I’m so happy to hear that! That’s why I wear perfumes!
P: It must have become like a ritual for you to wear perfumes before the live.
K: I’m thinking about scattering salt before stage to prevent happenings.
(Salt is used as an agent to prevent bad things from happening at the ceremony in Japan.)
P: Finally, please tell us what Kikka is feeling for the summer 2012.
K: I’ve released first single “Kokokara Hajimarunda!” since I turned adult age of 20. As the title says (It all starts from here!), I’ll try harder in everything including studying English, for I’ll visit the United States. I’m going to show grown-up Kikka. At the same time I hope they forgive me for being sometimes naughty. I’m also going to act in the TV drama. I’ve got lot to learn.
“Don’t forget to bring your pajama and toothbrush to the Eve Festival. In case you need other staff, the organizer UNIVERSAL JAPAN would take care of you.” You Kikkawa talked passionately about her resignation to hold “Kikka Fes” all night long until the end of the interview.
Everyone can join the Eve Festival and the Kikka Festivals with the ticket which comes with the CD you can purchase only on the UNIVERSAL MUSIC STORE online.
The availability of the CDs with tickets will be limited due to the capacities of the venues. The Eve Festival which she’s determined to hold all night long and Kikka Festivals in 3 cities will all be one “Omoshiro Fes (Entertaining Festival)” by You Kikkawa in the end.
